Guam, a golfer's
paradise, is renowned for its world class golf courses. This
tiny Pacific island offers 10 professional courses with a total
of 189 holes and another 27 hole course under construction.
Two of these courses are military and one a short nine hole
par 3 conveniently located beside the Tumon tourist district.
The remaining seven are numbered among some of the best courses
in the world. All of them are visually spectacular and professionally
challenging. Designers of these courses include such golfing
greats as Palmer and Nicklaus, Norman and Marsh, Snead and Littler
and Japan's Tunehira and Ayako.
Each designer has masterfully combined the beauty of Guam's
rugged landscape and coastline with innovative course design
to create stunning vistas of immaculately manicured greens
and fairways that wind their way through lush tropical jungle
and, in the majority, provide sweeping views of the Pacific
Ocean and Guam's fringing reefs.
It is hard to say which is Guam's "best" course.
They all provide their own unique challenges and no player
of whatever level of skill would ever call them easy. A combination
of gusting sea breezes, deceptive terrain and well placed
hazards would test the skills of any of golf's great champions
and regularly does.
No golf course on Guam is more than 20 minutes from any one
of Guam's hotels but many courses may be fully booked on any
one day so book early to avoid disappointment!
